The building’s history

_

The building that now houses KaJo Restaurant and Apartaments at 14 Niedziałkowskiego Street in Świdwin is a former watermill from the second half of the 19th century. It is one of three watermills within the city limits and also the most impressive.

The first mention of the mill located at the Rega riverbed dates back to the 14th century and is associated with the Wedel family.

From the 16th century, the mill was part of the castle manor, which was owned by the Order of St. John until 1808. After the secularisation of the Order and the regulation of the land, the mill remained a separate property. The mill building, i.e. the production part made of red brick, was built in 1851. In 1946, the mill was nationalised, at which time it produced 26 tonnes of flour per day!

A marvellous result of the building’s adaptation

_

The adaptation of the building took nearly four years, which was an incredibly busy and exciting time for us. During the renovation work, we discovered the extraordinary history hidden within the walls of the mill.

Because we very much wanted to preserve the character of this historic building, we left behind original elements such as beams, bricks, and old doors. By weaving new architectural solutions into them, we created modern interiors with an exceptional character and a historic background. In order to create a coherent whole, every detail of the décor was carefully considered and selected by us.

The building will delight you with its extraordinary atmosphere and perfectly chosen details, which can be found in all areas intended for our guests. We kindly invite you to visit us!
